What you can do

An Instagram-style photo-sharing app: people post pictures with captions, scroll a feed of accounts they follow, tap the heart to like, bookmark favorites, and leave comments. There is a story strip along the top (stories expire after 24 hours), an explore tab to search people and discover posts in a grid, an activity inbox of likes/comments/follows, and your own profile with everything you have shared. It runs entirely on your own Supabase project, so the app opens to a Connect screen first; once you connect a backend and sign up, everything is live (an optional preview-with-sample-data mode lets you look around before connecting).

Search people by name or username, or browse a responsive discover grid of recent posts (3 columns on phone, 4 on a wide screen).
Compose
Pick a photo (and, for posts, write a caption) then share; the image uploads to Supabase Storage. Same screen creates either a post or a 24h story.

profiles
One row per auth user with username, display_name, avatar_url, bio, and denormalized post_count, follower_count, and following_count.
posts
Single-image posts with author_id, image_url, caption, and denormalized like_count and comment_count.
likes
Pivot keyed on (post_id, user_id) that drives each post's like_count.
comments
Comments on posts with post_id, author_id, body, and created_at, driving comment_count.
follows
Pivot on (follower_id, following_id) with self-follow blocked, driving follower and following counts.
saves
Private bookmarks pivot on (post_id, user_id) backing the Saved tab.
stories
Ephemeral image stories with author_id, image_url, and an expires_at defaulting to 24 hours out.
story_views
Pivot on (story_id, user_id) tracking the seen state shown on the story strip.
notifications
Per-recipient inbox with kind (like, comment, follow, mention), actor_id, optional post_id, preview text, and a read flag.

Backend

RLS is enabled on all nine tables: profiles, posts, likes, comments, follows, and stories are world-readable with owner-only writes, while saves, story_views, and notifications are private to the owner.
A handle_new_user trigger on auth.users (on_auth_user_created) auto-creates a profile on signup with a unique, sanitized username derived from the email.
SECURITY DEFINER counter triggers (posts_after_ins/del, likes_after_ins/del, comments_after_ins/del, follows_after_ins/del) keep post_count, like_count, comment_count, follower_count, and following_count in sync, so the feed never aggregates at read time.
A profiles_lock_counters BEFORE UPDATE trigger re-pins the denormalized counters on client updates (unless an app.counter_bypass flag set only by the counter triggers is on), so a client cannot inflate its own follower or post counts.
A SECURITY DEFINER notify() helper inserts deduplicated notifications on like/comment/follow, skipping self-actions and upserting on a unique constraint; direct execute is revoked from anon/authenticated so clients cannot forge alerts.
Six tables (posts, likes, comments, follows, stories, notifications) are added to the supabase_realtime publication for live feed and badge updates.
Photos live in a public post-images Storage bucket with writes scoped to each user's own uid folder; indexes cover posts by author and recency, comments by post, follows, saves, stories, and a partial index on unread notifications.
No Edge Functions are used.
